Android or iOS, it doesn’t matter – smartphones of all different shapes and sizes are dominating the tech world these days. Where desktop computers and applications used to be the primary way to find information, use a programme or browse the web, mobile apps are rapidly overtaking them in prevalence, both in Australia and around the world – as you can see from the video below.
This change in habit is also being seen in the recruitment industry, where desktop apps have long been used to aid recruiters in their candidate management and applicant tracking systems. As helpful as these systems are right now, they’re quickly becoming outdated. Are mobile apps the future of recruitment technology in Australia?
Desktop recruitment apps – a thing of the past?
When you compare most mobile vs. desktop programmes, the difference in technological advancement is stark. Though there are a number of intuitive and helpful desktop apps, mobile usage has significantly overtaken that of desktops – the 2015 Nielsen Mobile Ratings Report showed that Aussies spend 40 per cent more time on their smartphones and tablets than their computers.

As recruitment professionals, it’s important that we keep an eye on this data to better target potential candidates, clients and partners through today’s newest technology. Recruitment solutions, as well, need to begin phasing out desktop apps in favour of mobile apps – yet we must also not forget the most crucial component of recruiting: maintaining interpersonal connections.
Keeping the human touch in Australian recruitment tech
Many recruiting apps, whether desktop or mobile, are attempting to optimise recruiters’ daily tasks, but they end up automating the wrong aspect of the job. Neil Bolton, CEO of Recruitment Systems, explains why this is a problem:
“Other systems concentrate on trying to automate what must always be a human process – that of matching a human’s aims, career objectives, beliefs, etc. with an employer’s mission, vision and values.”
TRIS Recruitment Software, on the other hand, removes the mundane administrative tasks from recruiters’ lives in order to let them focus on what really matters – recruiting. In order to stay up to date with today’s technology, we’re getting ready to release our new mobile app, TRIS5, specifically designed to allow recruiters to work on the go.
Keep your eye out for TRIS5’s release in 2018, and in the meantime, reach out to a Recruitment Systems representative to hear how our solutions can make your life easier.
